MONROE, La. – Freshman guard
Carlee Earls drained five three-pointers en route to scoring a game-high 15 points for the Southern Arkansas women's basketball team in their 67-78 exhibition loss to Division I-affiliated University of Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday afternoon inside the Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
The five made three-pointers for Earls are the most in a game for a Lady Mulerider basketball player since Shelbi Cottingham made five trifectas against Southeastern Oklahoma on February 9, 2013. Earls would also be the lone Lady Mulerider to score in double figures in the game, but nine other Lady Muleriders would score at least one point in the contest.
As a team, the Lady Muleriders would shot 42% overall from the floor (23-of-55) with nine of those made field goals coming from long range as SAU shot 41% (9-of-22) from beyond the arc. In addition to Earl's five three-pointers,
Cemetra Jenkins and
Ashley Riggles would account for the other four makes as Jenkins and Riggles each buried two.
On the glass, the Lady Muleriders were out-rebounded by ULM by just three boards as SAU pulled down 32 while the Warhawks came away with 35. In the turnover game, the Lady Muleriders would turn ULM over 16 times with eight of those coming via the steal. The Lady Muleriders would also block six shots with
Shabr'an Richardson and
Allie Wade each swatting two shots.
The Lady Muleriders will now prepare for a pair of home conference games this week as they play host to #8-ranked Harding University at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday night and Ouachita Baptist at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
