CLAREMORE, Okla. – Senior
Chanel Miller scored a season-high 25 points as the Lady Mulerider basketball team recorded a key 73-63 road non-conference victory at the Claremore Expo Center Tuesday night versus Rogers State.
RSU (1-3) jumped out to a 16-7 lead after an 8-0 run that stretched 3:49 at the 11:33 mark. SAU (3-2) responded with its own 8-0 run over the next 1:58 on four straight jumpers from Miller to cut the deficit to one at 16-15.
With the game tied at 26 with 3:59 left in the first half, the Lady Muleriders scored nine straight points, all from Miller, via four free throws, a three-pointer and a jumper. Miller finished with 19 first-half points on an efficient 6-for-8 shooting from the floor and the free-throw line. Junior
Shannon Agnew chipped in eight points on two threes and two free throws in addition to three steals as SAU took a 35-26 lead into the break.
Agnew continued her scoring success in the second half, laying one in at the 17:07 mark before burying a three to spark a 7-0 SAU run to push the Lady Muleriders lead to 46-33. Later in the half senior
Allie Wade drained back-to-back treys to give SAU a comfortable 20-point lead with 5:13 to play and the Hillcats were unable to fully respond.
Agnew finished with 13 points and made 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Wade added eight points and five rebounds, all of which came in the second half.
The Lady Muleriders return to W.T. Watson Center Saturday to face A&M-Commerce with a first tip set for 2 p.m.
