Miller’s career-high 34-point effort not enough to lift Lady Muleriders past Henderson State

Box Score

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Despite a career-high 34 points from Chanel Miller, the Southern Arkansas women's basketball team came out on the losing end, 87-98, against Henderson State on Tuesday night in the Duke Wells Center.

Miller, the team's leading scorer on the year, would score 16 of her 34 points in the first half as she went 8-of-18 from the floor. In the second half, Miller bettered that scoring output as she scored 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Additionally, Miller was 8-of-10 from the three-point line in the second half.

The scoring surge by Miller helped the Lady Muleriders (7-8, 3-6 GAC) get back into the game and keep pace with a Lady Reddie offense that was explosive from the outset of the game. In the first half alone, the Lady Reddies scored 48 points on the strength of 59% shooting (17-of-29) from the floor. Eight of their 17 made field goals in the opening half came from beyond the arc.

After trailing by as much as 19 points, 60-41, with 16:11 left in the second half, the Lady Muleriders would pull to within seven points over the next four minutes of the game as they ripped off a 14-2 run. That run was answered with quick 8-0 spurt by the Lady Reddies to push their lead back out to double-digits.

The Lady Muleriders would work the game to single digits several times down the stretch, getting as close as five points with 5:35 remaining, but the Lady Reddies would eventually hold on for an 11-point win.

Two other Lady Muleriders scored in double figures behind Miller's outstanding performance. Barvion Wyatt was the team's second-leading scorer with 18 points while Erin Luton chipped in 10 points. Mariam Ridgwell would lead the team in rebounding with eight.

The Lady Muleriders will take to the court again on Thursday, January 23 as they play host to rival Arkansas-Monticello. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
