SEARCY, Ark. – In an otherwise even game statistically, the Southern Arkansas men's basketball team made 12 fewer free throws than Harding, and that proved to be the difference as the Muleriders fell to the Bisons by 12 points, 92-80, on Thursday night at the Rhodes Field House in Searcy.
By the end of the game, the Muleriders (5-7, 2-5 GAC) and the Bisons (8-6, 5-3 GAC) virtually mirrored one another in their scoring efforts as each made 30 field goals from the floor. Additionally, 10 of those made field goals for each team came from beyond the arc.
The difference in the scoring, however, came at the free throw line. From the charity stripe, SAU shot for a higher percentage (71% - 67%), but Harding took 19 more shots than the Muleriders (33-14) and the Bisons made good on 12 more attempts (22-10).
Three Muleriders scored in double figures in the game with
Chauncy Williams leading the way with 25 points on 8-of-18 shooting. Seven of Williams' made shots came from three-point range.
Alre'k Brown was just behind Williams with 24 points on an efficient 10-of-12 shooting from the floor. 17 of Brown's points came in the second half. Rounding out double-digit scoring for the Muleriders was
Tyrell Taylor as he added 10 points.
As a team, the Muleriders has 22 assists. Taylor led the way with six assists while
Tre'von Wilkerson and Williams added five and four assists, respectively.
The Muleriders will look to get back on the winning track as they head back home to host Arkansas Tech on Saturday, January 18. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the W.T. Watson Center.
