Muleriders end season in opening round of GAC Tournament

Box Score

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The Southern Arkansas men's basketball team had their season come to an end on Friday night as the Muleriders were unable to overcome first-half shooting woes in an eventual 62-43 loss in the opening round of the Great American Conference Tournament to the No. 1 seeded Harding University Bisons.

The Muleriders (10-17), who held a slim lead through the first couple minutes of the game, fell into a deep hole they could not climb out of as the Bisons used a 20-0 run over the next seven minutes of play to establish a commanding 21-4 lead with 11:13 remaining in the first half. During that run, the Muleriders would miss seven consecutive shots from the floor while the Bisons connected on seven of their 10 shots.

The Bisons would continue to shoot well after that monster run as they ended the first half shooting 42% (10-of-24) en route to taking a 19-point lead into halftime, 32-13.

In the second half, the Muleriders were able to improve upon their shooting from the first half, but they would not be able to sustain a run that would significantly cut into the Bisons' lead as Harding also improved upon their shooting in the final 20 minutes.

The Muleriders would end the game with a 24% shooting percentage (13-of-55) while the Bisons ended with a 44% shooting percentage (19-of-43).

Senior guard Chris Davis ended his career at Southern Arkansas as the lone Mulerider to score in double figures as he scored a team-high 11 points. Darrin Johnson and Jamail Turner were behind Davis in scoring with eight points each.
