ARKADELHPIA, Ark. – With 14:10 remaining in the game the Southern Arkansas women's basketball team trailed by their largest margin, 13 points, but a fierce 15-0 run over the next three minutes of play gave the Lady Muleriders their first and only lead of the game as they went on to beat Ouachita Baptist by a score of 73-69 on Thursday night at the Bill Vining Arena.
Soon after that giant run to get back into the game, the Lady Muleriders (5-3, 2-1 GAC) took control of the game as they went on another scoring tear, this time it was a 12-0 run that lasted right around two minutes of game time. Sparking the run was a technical foul called on the Lady Tigers' (0-6, 0-3 GAC) bench with the score knotted at 49-all.
The Lady Tigers would battle back into the game late, but the Lady Muleriders did not relinquish their lead.
Statistically, three Lady Muleriders scored in double figures with
Chanel Miller leading the way with a game-high 18 points.
Allie Wade and
Courtney Lindsey would come off the bench and combine for 26 points as Wade scored 16 and Lindsey 10. A majority of Wade's damage came from beyond the arc as she was 4-of-5. Lindsey picked up six of her points from the charity stripe as she was 6-of-8 from the free throw line.
The Lady Muleriders out-rebounded the Lady Tigers 39-32 and
Barvion Wyatt led the charge for SAU as she pulled down 10 rebounds.
Weather pending, the Lady Muleriders will head back to Arkadelphia on Saturday afternoon to take on the Lady Reddies of Henderson State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
