BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Southern Arkansas volleyball team lost both of their matches on Saturday as they took part in the Southwest Baptist tri-match against host-school Southwest Baptist and #11-ranked Washburn University.
In their first match of the day, the Lady Muleriders (15-13) took on host-school Southwest Baptist. Following losses in the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-23, the Lady Muleriders staved off the three-set sweep as they won the third set 25-21.
In that third set, the Lady Muleriders turned a 9-6 deficit into a 15-9 lead as they ripped off a 9-0 run. From there, SAU would maintain their lead as they closed out the set with a 25-21 win.
Set four began with a 5-0 run by Southwest Baptist and the Bearcats (15-12) did not look back from there as they did not trail in the set en route to a 25-14 win, giving them the match victory in four sets.
Hailey McNee and
Courtney Geesing registered double-digit kills in the match against SBU as McNee had 18 and Geesing 11.
In the second match of the day, the Lady Muleriders took on nationally-ranked no.11 Washburn University, but were unable to match the powerful Ichabods (25-4) as they fell in straight sets, 25-13, 25-7, 25-20.
McNee and Geesing again led the offensive attack as each recorded six kills in the second match.
SAU will now hit the home stretch of their conference slate as they will take the road one final time this regular season for a conference clash with Southern Nazarene on Friday, November 8. First-serve is set for 2 p.m.
