RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas volleyball team took to the road on Tuesday night in search of a big road win against Arkansas Tech, but the Golden Suns defended their home court, defeating the Lady Muleriders in straights sets, 3-0.
All three sets were played tight early as there were seven tie scores and four lead changes in the opening set, nine tie scores and four lead changes in the second set, and five tie scores and three lead changes in the final set. Despite the tight play, the Golden Suns (15-9, 5-3 GAC) pulled away in each of the sets with four to five-point runs midway through to gain control of the set, and eventually win the set.
ATU also featured a potent offensive attack as they hit over .300 in each set and collected 16 or more kills as well.
For the Lady Muleriders (14-10, 4-5 GAC), they ended the match with a .175 attack percentage as they notched 28 kills and committed 11 errors on 97 total attacks. Six different Lady Muleriders recorded a kill in the match with
Courtney Geesing and
Logan Tolbert leading the way with six kills each.
Hailey McNee and
Amanda Monge were next in line with five kills each.
Defensively, the Lady Muleriders came away with 32 digs with McNee notching the most with 10. They also recorded three total blocks in the match. Tolbert led the club in blocks with one block solo and one block assist.
The Lady Muleriders will now return home after a lengthy seven-match road swing as they will play host to Harding University on Tuesday, October 29. First-serve is set for 7 p.m. and the match will double as the Lady Muleriders' Dig Pink Game.
