Lady Muleriders cruise past Lyon College in non-conference action

Box Score

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Despite a slight hiccup in the second set, the Southern Arkansas volleyball team cruised to a 3-1 match win against Lyon College on the road on Tuesday night in non-conference action.

The Lady Muleriders (14-7) took the opening set in convincing fashion, 25-16, thanks to a sensational offensive attack in which they hammered home 14 kills and committed just five errors on 26 total attacks for a .346 attack percentage. Set two, however, was the set in which the offense struggled slightly as the Lady Muleriders had an attack percentage of .080 after registering nine kills while committing seven errors on 25 total attacks.

The offensive efficiency would get back on track in the third set as SAU played their way to a 25-15 set win. In that set, the Lady Muleriders collected just nine kills on offense, but they benefited from 10 attack errors by the Lady Scots (11-15).

Ahead in the match two sets to one, SAU put the match away in the fourth set as they led from wire-to-wire en route to a 25-20 set win, giving them the match win, 3-1.

Statistically on offense, the Lady Muleriders totaled 43 kills and committed 21 attack errors on 104 total attacks for a .212 attack percentage. On defense, the Lady Muleriders came away with 48 digs and totaled nine blocks (two block solos, 14 block assists).

Individually, Amanda Monge, who was named the GAC Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the day, led the team in kills with 15. Joining Monge with GAC weekly honors was Gabby Clark, and SAU's setter dished out 34 of the team's 38 assists against Lyon. Freshman libero Ally Rodriguez led the team with 19 digs.

The Lady Muleriders will remain on the road, and jump back into conference play as they will travel to Southeastern Oklahoma for a Friday, October 18 match with the Savage Storm. First-serve is set for 2 p.m.
