Lady Muleriders battle back against Montevallo to earn split in Montevallo Tri-Match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Southern Arkansas volleyball team continued their non-conference road swing on Saturday as they took part in tri-match against Francis Marion University and the University of Montevallo.

The Lady Muleriders (13-7) dropped their first match of the day against Francis Marion 3-0, and fell behind two sets to none against Montevallo, but rebounded to win the next three sets against Montevallo to earn the match win 3-2.

Despite coming out on the short end in the first two sets, SAU was never out of the match competitively as there were a total of 24 tie scores and eight lead changes during that time. The back-and-forth play began to pay dividends for the Lady Muleriders in the third set as they erased a 13-7 deficit with a 9-0 run to take a 16-13 lead. From there, SAU would maintain the lead en route to a 25-21 set three win.

Set four featured another strong run midway through to give SAU the lead as they turned a 14-all tie in to a 20-15 lead. Montevallo would pull to within a point, 24-23, but an attack error by Montevallo forced the decisive fifth set.

In that fifth set, SAU ripped off another five-point run to take a lead, this time it resulted in a 10-5 advantage. From there, the Lady Muleriders would get four kills and an assisted block to complete their comeback victory.

Across the two matches, SAU registered 90 kills. Individually, Amanda Monge led the team with 23 kills followed behind by Hailey McNee with 21 kills. Gabby Clark paced the offense with 79 of the team's 85 assists. Ally Rodriguez led the team with 32 digs across the two matches.

SAU will remain on the road as they will take on Lyon College in non-conference action on Tuesday, October 15. First-serve in Batesville is set for 7 p.m.
