Muleriders fall to Tigers in close contest

Box Score ARKADELPHIA  – Southern Arkansas outscored Ouachita Baptist 15-7 in the final five minutes of Great American Conference action Saturday night, but the effort was not enough to give the Muleriders the win at Bill Vining Arena. The Tigers held on for a 68-61 victory.
 
The Tigers (10-7, 6-5 GAC) were looking to settle the score with the Muleriders who picked up a 66-54 win during the teams' first meeting of the season in December. Southern Arkansas (6-11, 2-9 GAC) extends its mid-season slump to five losses.
 
Leading scorers for the Tigers included junior guard Eric Braeuer with 18 points. Senior guard Austin Mitchell was good for 12 points while sophomore forward Colt Fason added 10 points and 5 rebounds.
 
Two Muleriders had two players to put up double figures during the night. Junior guard Nigel Jones (Wadley, Ala.) accounted for 15 points and eight rebounds. Junior forward Duke Reed (Houston, Texas) scored 12 points and pulled down six rebounds.
 
The Muleriders shot 32.8 percent from the floor and 52 percent from the line. The Tigers were 41.5 percent from the floor and 55.9 percent from the line.
 
The Muleriders return home for four consecutive contests beginning Thursday, January 31, as they host Southwestern Oklahoma State in a game scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
