Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech opened with a 14-0 lead and rolled on to a 99-46 win over Southern Arkansas in Great American Conference action Saturday at Tucker Coliseum.
The Lady Muleriders (0-14, 0-9 GAC) suffered their worst loss since a 97-49 defeat at then No. 1 Delta State in February 2008, while the Golden Suns (10-5, 7-2 GAC) topped 90 points for the second time this year in winning their third straight.
Jessica Weatherford led ATU with 18 points and had seven rebounds, while Westin Taylor scored 14 points and also had seven boards. Caroline Eubanks recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, Jae Tucker scored 12 points, and Tikeyiah Johnson added 10.
Freshman guard
Macey Burr (Hot Springs Village) was the only SAU player in double-figures, scoring 13. Sophomore guard
Kathryn Odom (Allen, Texas) chipped in seven points.
Weatherford scored eight points in the 14-0 lead that came at 14:22. Sophomore guard
Bria Snowden (El Dorado) finally put Southern Arkansas on the board with a lay-up at 13:50. Tech stretched it to a 32-8 game on Taylor's three-pointer at 8:07 before settling for a 48-22 advantage at the half.
The Lady Muleriders were never closer than 26 points in the second frame. Eubanks' lay-up provided a 72-32 margin with 9:38 left, before the Golden Suns made it a 50-point game of 93-43 with two minutes remaining.
ATU shot 52 percent for the game on 34 of 65 and went to the free throw line 42 times, hitting 25. SAU shot 30 percent on 17 of 57, including just 3 of 23 treys, and hit 9 of 20 free throws.
Arkansas Tech held a 55-33 rebound margin. Freshman center
Jordan Redmond (Liberty Hill, Texas) grabbed nine for Southern Arkansas.
The Golden Suns outscored the Lady Muleriders 52-24 inside, scored 19 points off 24 SAU turnovers, while committing just 12, and led 19-8 in second-chance points and 52-24 in bench points.
Southern Arkansas travels Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. meeting at Arkansas-Monticello.
