MARION, Ill. – Former Southern Arkansas All-America infielder
Cannon Lester (El Dorado) was recently named the MVP of the Frontier League championship series in leading the Southern Illinois Miners to their first-ever league championship.
Lester and his teammates won the series 3-1 over the Florence Freedom, getting the clinching 4-3 victory off a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 12th inning.
Lester had eight hits over the four games, including two home runs, both solo shots coming in the third inning of each of the first two games in Florence, Ky. The Miners won game one 5-3, and Lester drove in three runs in the second game 9-4 win. He added an RBI double in a 4-3 loss in the third game of the series.
The Frontier League is an independent professional baseball league based in the Midwest.
Lester is currently in his second year as a graduate assistant coach with the Mulerider baseball team.
