ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas handled its first Great American Conference volleyball match on the road in fine fashion, tossing a 3-0 shutout at Henderson State Tuesday at the Duke Wells Center. Scores were 25-20, 25-23 and 25-22.
The win gave the Lady Muleriders (7-2, 2-0 GAC) their fifth consecutive behind their fourth three-set shutout of the year, and it's the first time SAU has won its first two conference matches of the season since 1995.
Southern Arkansas dominated the offensive game with 51 kills to 26 for the Lady Reddies (3-8, 0-2 GAC), and recorded 28 more attacks at 125 to 97.
Junior outside hitter
Denise De Vine (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) and junior middle hitter Cambria Martin (Tujunga, Calif.) paced the Lady Muleriders with a match-high 13 kills apiece, and senior hitter
Courtney Smith (Mansfield, Texas) added 11.
Junior setter
Klaire Blasco Vine (Downey, Calif.) served up a match-high 39 assists and had two service aces. Junior libero
Lauren Woods (Kennedale, Texas) had a match-high 15 digs, while junior outside hitter
Courtney Geesing (Montrose, Colo.) finished with 10.
Sarah Williams led HSU with nine kills and Lauren Ray had 14 digs.
SAU continues league play Thursday, hosting Arkansas-Monticello in a 7 p.m. match at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.
