Sage Woodham is in the fourth year of her second stint in Magnolia and since returning to SAU, she has and continues to serve in multiple roles in addition to her current duties as Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations/Compliance/SWA.
Woodham serves as the department's advisor for SAU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee which during her time has been heavily involved in the department, on campus and throughout the community sponsoring events such as "Boo My Yard" which raised $1,200 for Magnolia Specialized Services in the fall of 2020, partnering with the Magnolia Boys & Girls Club for a Harvest Festival, hosting a department-wide Tower Step Challenge on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and the planning and execution of "Muleriders for Micah" Restaurant Week.
Woodham will continue on the NCAA Division II Men's & Women's Cross Country National Committee where she will serve as the Central Region Chair. Additionally, Woodham serves as an Advocate on SAU's Title IX Committee, is currently on the University's Budget Committee and is entering her second year on the SAU Staff Senate.
In January of 2020, Woodham played an integral role in aiding Southern Arkansas University acceptance into the National College Athlete Honor Society as the Arkansas Zeta Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma (XAΣ) which recognizes student-athletes from accredited four-year NCAA, NAIA, or NCCAA institutions who excel in both the classroom and competition. Woodham, alongside Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Scott White, serve as chapter advisors. Since its inception, SAU's chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma has inducted 45 Mulerider student-athletes.
Woodham, a native of Daphne, Alabama, returned to Magnolia in the fall of 2019 in an administrative role and brought with her a surplus of experience from the past 13 years as a student-athlete and coach.
Stops prior to Magnolia included one season as the pitching coach at Division II North Georgia where she helped the Nighthawks to a fifth-place finish nationally at the 2018 NCAA Division II Women's College World Series. Prior to her one year at UNG, Woodham served in the same capacity for one season at Division I Georgia Tech in 2016-17.
In her first stint at Southern Arkansas, Woodham served as the Mulerider Softball pitching coach in an assistant role and was instrumental in guiding the 2016 team to the Great American Conference Tournament Championship, the Central Region Championship and the program's first-ever berth in the NCAA Division II Women's College World Series.
Woodham's first four years of coaching collegiately came as a graduate assistant at Augusta State (Ga.) (2009-11) and as an assistant coach at the University of North Alabama (2012-14).
In all, Woodham developed multiple pitchers that would stake claim to all-American, all-region, and all-conference honors in addition to capturing national player of the year awards and major statistical accolades.
Before becoming a coach, Woodham was a standout pitcher for the storied University of Alabama-Huntsville softball team from 2006-09. While playing at UAH, Woodham was a two-time All-American and named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Decade (2000s) in 2010. During her career, she won 91 games and posted a 1.22 ERA with 607 strikeouts. Woodham also helped lead the Chargers to a national runner-up finish in the 2009 NCAA Division II World Series.
Woodham finished up her eligibility in 2009 at UAH where she was majoring in secondary education and history. In 2010, she graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with a minor in Natural Science and in 2012, she received a master's degree in Kinesiology from Augusta State.
