Championship Coach Logan Quinn Returns from NBA G-League Coaching Stint to Lead Muleriders

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas University's Director of Athletics Steve Browning has announced that Logan Quinn has been named the next Mulerider Men's Head Basketball Coach.

"Coach Quinn has already made a tremendous impact on our men's basketball program and the culture of Mulerider Athletics," said Steve Browning. "From the moment he arrived on campus the first time, it was evident that he possessed the leadership, vision, and work ethic needed to elevate our program. His passion for developing student-athletes, ability to build meaningful relationships, and commitment to excellence helped lead Mulerider Basketball to historic success, including a conference tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance."

Quinn makes his return to Magnolia after having been on staff with the National Basketball Association's Denver Nuggets' G-League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold. While he was an assistant with the Gold, the organization saw two NBA G-League Performers of the Week in Jalen Pickett and Trey Alexander. Alexander went on to be named the G-League Rookie of the Year, as well as being on the All-NBA G-League Third Team and NBA G-League All-Rookie Team. As the Gold's offensive coordinator, Quinn assisted in developing notable players to the NBA, such as Spencer Jones and Jalen Pickett with the Denver Nuggets, and Jahmir Young with the Miami Heat.

"The experience Coach Quinn gained at the NBA G-League level with the Grand Rapids Gold has only strengthened his knowledge of the game and ability to mentor young men at a high level," stated Steve Browning. "We are extremely excited to welcome Logan, Bella, Brooks, and Brielle back to Mulerider Country, and we believe the future of Mulerider Men's Basketball is very bright under his leadership."

Coach Quinn is set to resume his role as the Mulerider Men's Basketball Head Coach, as he served as the program's tenth head coach since 1950 and the sixth head coach in the program's 32 years with the NCAA (2022-23 | 2023-24).

"My family and I are extremely excited to have the unique opportunity to come back home," exclaimed Coach Logan Quinn. "SAU is such a special place, filled with incredible memories for Bella and I. God truly does have a plan for our lives, and we felt like doors were opened at the perfect time for us to return to Magnolia and continue to build on an already firm foundation. The work will be evident, our players will be developed, and the community will be proud of SAU Basketball. We can't thank Coach Browning and Dr. Hicks enough for wanting us to come back and lead this program once again. Let's keep building this program together, and let's keep the W.T. Watson Center one of the toughest environments in the country!"

During his two seasons as head coach for the Muleriders, Quinn led the program to a 33-28 record, two Great American Conference Tournament appearances, a GAC Tournament Championship, and a berth in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

Also, during his tenure, Quinn coached three All-GAC honorees, highlighted by Gregory Hammond Jr., who earned the 2022-23 GAC Newcomer of the Year plaudit, First Team All-GAC recognition in 2022-23, and Second Team All-GAC honors in 2023-24. He also coached 2022-23 All-GAC Honorable Mention LaTreavin Black and 2023-24 All-GAC Second Team member Carel Ray Jr.

In his historic first campaign as head coach, the native of Los Angeles, California, recorded an NCAA Era single-season program record for wins with 22; the most by a first-year Mulerider head coach and the most overall since the 1989-90 season; an NCAA Era single-season program record for conference wins with 15 and the program's highest regular season Great American Conference finish at tied for second. To cap GAC competition in that 2022-23 season, Quinn and his Muleriders claimed the title of Great American Conference Tournament Champions. Nationally, the Muleriders finished in the top 40 in the country in offensive rebounds per game (12.62 | 26th), rebound margin (4.7 | 33rd), three-point attempts per game (25.8 | 39th) and three-pointers made per game (9.3 | 40th).

In his first three years at SAU, Quinn aided the Muleriders as the Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach and helped account for 46 wins, including 35 in Great American Conference play, a GAC Eastern Division Championship, three Great American Conference Tournament appearances with three wins and the program's first-ever appearance in the tournament title game, and the program's first NCAA Tournament berth.

In those three campaigns as the Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach, he helped coach and mentor three All-GAC selections in Devante and Jalen Brooks and the league's 2020-21 Player and Defensive Player of the Year in Aaron Lucas; the program's first All-America honoree in the department's NCAA Era.
