CABOT, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas Women's Golf team finished its first round of play in almost a year on Monday afternoon at the Natural State Classic. Sophomore
Mackenzy Turner and freshman
Chelsea Chow led the group at a cold, wet Cypress Creek Golf Club (Par 72 – 6,018 yards) as the duo each shot an 82 (+10) to sit tied for 35
th.
Turner's 82 came behind eight pars and a birdie on No. 18. Chow's 82 came courtesy of a team-high nine pars. The pair are just four strokes back of cracking the top 20 of the individual leaderboard.
Two Muleriders made their collegiate debuts for Southern Arkansas on Monday as freshmen
Taylor Rich and
Elizabeth Townsend hit the course in SAU Blue and Gold for the first time in their careers. Rich finished with an 87 (+15) in her first round which included six pars and a birdie on No. 15. Townsend finished at +19 with five pars. Freshman
Corynn McKinnie delivered four pars as she matched Townsend at +19.
