Mickey Hammer is a senior distance runner from Marshall who has been a Mulerider Cross Country stand-out. He is a member of a select group that has been named twice to the U.S. Track and Field and the Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team. He was also twice a member of the Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll and is a member of the SAU President’s List and Dean’s List.
Hammer was an All-South Central Region selection this past fall, placing 19th at the region championship and received first team All-Great American Conference honors in finishing ninth at the GAC championship. He was twice honored as the league’s runner of the week. He was the leading scorer on the team for the second consecutive and had five top-19 finishes, including winning both the Texas-Tyler and Southern Arkansas Invitational’s.
Hammer is off to a great start in 2012, recently finishing first among all Division II runners at the Missouri Southern State University Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo.
When asked what makes Hammer stand out among his peers, Coach Tim Servis said he “is smart, nice and very outgoing.”
