MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University Muleriders (2-2 GAC) collected their first home win of the season in dominant fashion with a 95-76 victory over the Mississippi College Choctaws (3-2 GSC) behind an electric home crowd inside the W.T. Watson Center.
The Choctaws came out of the gate hot scoring the game's first five points before Greg Moore Jr. got the Muleriders on the board by draining a three pointer. Junior Williams then followed quickly with a lay in to tie the game at 5-5 with 18:33 remaining in the first half. JaKourion Key then gave SAU the lead with a layup of his own, 7-5 but the Choctaws responded with a three pointer to retake the lead, 8-7.
The first seven minutes of the game were back and forth, as both teams traded blows switching the lead back and forth, until Kendal Parker sunk a three-pointer giving SAU the lead, 17-15 with 13:34 remaining. After regaining the lead, the Muleriders continued to pour it on, but the Choctaws fought back tying the game at 27 with 8:36 before intermission. Another two lead changes followed by MC opening up a three-point lead led to Greg Moore Jr. draining yet another three-pointer to tie the game at 35-35.
After tying the game, the Muleriders did not look back, as they poured on the points and eventually opening up a 13-point lead as Greg Moore Jr. sunk yet another three at the buzzer to give SAU a 53-40 advantage at the half. After the break, the Muleriders did not look back, as they continued their hot shooting, taking a 19-point lead with 10:40 remaining as Troy'reon Ramos converted a jumper, 74-55.
The Choctaws did fight back but the Mulerider offense was too hot opening up a 23-point lead with 2:47 left, 93-70. Two good free throws by JaKourion Key capped off the scoring for the Muleriders, sealing the victory.
In total, the Muleriders shot 54.5% from the field, 50% from beyond the arc and 80% from the free throw line as well as a season high 53 points in the first half and 95 total points.
Greg Moore Jr. had another 20+ point performance behind six three pointers. Moore Jr. lit up the stat sheet all over as he also collected five rebounds, five steals, and two assists. He also made a season-high six three pointers in the game. Junior Williams (14), JaKourion Key (13), Jair Horton (13), and Kendal Parker (11) also finished in double-digit scoring for the Muleriders.
