Ken Schmidt, much like his SAU Hall of Fame classmates Don Henson and James Pettitt, played and earned All-AIC honors on both offensive and defensive line in the early 1960s for Southern Arkansas.
In 1962, Schmidt was an All-AIC First-Team selection on both the offensive and defensive line. Later that same year, Schmidt would go on to earn NAIA All-America Honorable Mention accolades as an offensive tackle. A year prior in 1961, Schmidt was an All-AIC Honorable Mention offensive tackle, adding to his All-AIC Second-Team plaudits in 1960 as an offensive lineman.
After his collegiate playing days, Schmidt coached many years at Magnolia High School, which included a stint as the head football coach. After living in Magnolia, Ken and wife, Linda, moved back to his native town of North Little Rock for their retirement years.
