Steven Gream – Head Coach

Steven Gream was hired in February 2010 as the new head volleyball coach at Southern Arkansas and becomes the ninth coach to lead the Lady Mulerider program. He replaces Brooke White, who resigned after four years at SAU.

A native of Portageville, Mo., Gream served the previous five years (2005-2009) as head coach at his alma mater, Union University in Jackson, Tenn., where he compiled a 121-51 record. During his tenure at Union, Gream led the Lady Bulldogs to four consecutive seasons of 25-plus wins, the 2008 TransSouth Conference championship, two National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) regional tournament appearances, before they were discontinued in 2007, and one trip to the NAIA national tournament. His teams consistently appeared in the NAIA national rankings.

While at Union, Gream also served as assistant softball coach for three seasons from 2005-2008.

Before taking over the reins at Union, Gream spent five years as the junior and senior high volleyball coach and taught history at his high school alma mater, North Pemiscot High School, in Wardell, Mo.

Gream got his start in volleyball serving as a student assistant coach at Union from 1998-2000. He assisted in starting the volleyball program in 1998 and during his two seasons the teams went a combined 78-18 with a conference championship, two NAIA region tournament appearances and a pair of National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) tournament appearances.

Gream has worked with various volleyball clubs and leagues during his spare time, and each summer starting in 2005, has led a group of high school volleyball players to Hawaii for competition against players from across the nation. He is also an active member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), having served on numerous national and regional committees.

Gream received his B.S. in history in 2000 and his M.Ed. in 2004, both from Union.
