Kevin Allison – Head Coach

Southern Arkansas named Kevin Allison as its new head softball coach this past December. Allison replaces Jamie Madewell, who resigned this past fall to take the head softball position at St. Petersburg College, a two-year school in Florida.

Allison, who comes to SAU from Hughes Springs (Texas) High School, becomes the fourth coach of the 10-year Lady Mulerider softball program, following Madewell (2006-2007), Jenifer Pagani (2004-2005), and Kevin Blaskowski (1999-2003).

Allison was only recently at Hughes Springs, being hired this past fall to head the softball program. Prior to his position there, he served as assistant coach at Northeast Texas College in Mt. Pleasant for four years from 2004-2007. During his time there he twice helped Northeast Texas teams advance for the first time ever to the NJCAA regional tournament. Other than recruiting, his duties included serving as catching, outfield, hitting, and pitching coach, and assisting with the infield.

Over the summers, Allison coached fast pitch travel ball for 12 years, building a 620-214 record in the process. His 18-year old team won the national championship this past summer, as did his 2005 team, while his 2006 team finished third in the nation. Allison’s teams won eight state championships, finished second twice and third twice at state, and had one fifth-place finish at the state tournament.

Allison received his M.A. in kinesiology from Texas Woman’s University in 2007, his B.A. in political science/pre-law from the University of Texas-Permian Basin in 1993, and his associates’ degree in marketing/management from Odessa (Texas) College in 1991. He also holds a 4-Star Master Coach certificate from the National Fastpitch Coaches College.

A native of Odessa, Allison and his wife, Janet, have a 22-year old son, Austin, and a 17-year old daughter, Heather.
