Carrie SlatonCarrie Slaton begins her second season as assistant coach for the Lady Mulerider basketball team. A former graduate assistant coach for SAU from 1999-2000, Slaton returned to Southern Arkansas after spending a year at Lockesburg High School where she served as head senior girl’s basketball, junior girl’s track, and senior boy’s golf coach.

Prior to being at Lockesburg, Slaton was the assistant girl’s basketball and softball coach at Norphlet for a year. She spent the 2003-04 season as the head junior and assistant senior high basketball coach, and head girl’s track coach at Hamburg, and was at Haynesville (La.) from 2001-03 as senior high basketball and track coach. Slaton began her coaching career at Homer (La.) in 2000-01, where she was head senior girl’s basketball coach. She has coached numerous track and basketball district champion teams and state basketball playoff teams.

As an athlete, Slaton prepped at Lockesburg, where she was an honorable mention All-American, All-State, and All-District performer in track, and an All-District selection in basketball. She was named to the 1994 USA high school track and field team that competed in the Youth Championships held in Germany and Austria.

Graduating cum laude, Slaton received her B.S.E. in kinesiology from Southern Arkansas in 1999, and her M.Ed. in kinesiology from SAU in 2000.

Slaton and her husband, J.R. Bunner, have a daughter, Kate.
