RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Lady Mulerider Basketball senior guard
Sue Key has been named the Great American Conference's Player of the Week per the league offices on Monday morning. Key played a pivotal role in helping Southern Arkansas claim a pair of important league victories this past weekend in Oklahoma.
Key produced arguably her best two-game stretch as a Lady Mulerider after averaging 24.5 ppg in road wins over Southeastern Oklahoma and East Central. She shot 55.2% (16-of-29) from the floor in the two games and her final shot of the weekend was a late runner that sank East Central, 68-66.
The Dubach, Louisiana, native shot 57.1% (8-of-14) from three-point range including a 6-of-7 mark at East Central. In the win over ECU, Key registered her third 30-plus point performance with 34 points. Additionally, Key averaged four rebounds and collected three assists, two blocks and a pair of steals in the two games.
The senior transfer's successes helped SAU win just its third game against the Savage Storm since the 2011-12 season. The victory in Ada was the first for SAU on the road since 2015 and just the second road win over ECU since the 1995-96 season. Through 21 games, Key has registered 17 games in double-figure scoring including the last 14 games with ten or more points.
The Lady Muleriders are 6-5 in 2018 after posting a 1-9 record in the 2017 portion of the schedule. Southern Arkansas has won three straight and faces a formidable opponent on Thursday as No. 10 and league-leading Southwestern Oklahoma State comes to Magnolia.
