Louisville Slugger/NFCA tab SAU Softball’s Goad as Division II National Player of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Redshirt senior slugger Brooke Goad has added another weekly honor following a powerful weekend at the plate for No. 7 Southern Arkansas as the Waxahachie, Texas, native has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week per an afternoon announcement by the organization on Wednesday.

The reigning Great American Conference Player of the Week, Goad continued her hot start to the season as she slashed an impressive .500/.714/2.000 in a 4-for-8 effort at the Emporia State 6-State Classic this past weekend in Kansas. All four of Goad's hits were home runs and she finished the four-game slate with seven RBI, five runs scored and 16 total bases, while also drawing six base-on-balls.

Goad began her weekend with a two-run home run in a run-rule win over Pittsburg State, which sparked solo blasts against Missouri Southern and Emporia State and a three-run home run against Concordia-St. Paul.

The four dingers this past weekend gives the power-hitting lefty seven for the season and 65 for her career. That career total ranks sixth all-time in NCAA Division II history and places her two home runs shy of overtaking fifth place. The seven hits that have left the yard in 2018 lead the GAC and are the second-most nationally in Division II.

Goad's 1.320 slugging percentage is the third-best such clip in Division II and her 18 RBI in SAU's ten games this season ranks tenth in nation.

The national weekly honor is the first for Goad in her career and she becomes the fifth player in program history to earn the NFCA's national honor joining former Lady Muleriders Maddie Dow (2017), Kaylee Garner (2016) and Darian Harris (2016), who all claimed the award under current head coach Jason Anderson. Hanna Gill claimed the honor in 2013 as she became the first Lady Mulerider in program history to be bestowed the weekly honor.
