MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas University football program has announced the signing of 41 players for the upcoming 2017 season as the newest Muleriders signed National Letters of Intent (NLIs) on Wednesday as part of National Signing Day for college football.
 
"Our goal heading into this year's recruiting was to find the best student-athletes that had what we were looking for at each position," said head football coach Bill Keopple. "We were able to address all of our needs at each position. The fact that we won nine games last year, and have nine returning starters on defense along with eight returning on offense, definitely made it much easier to attract quality talent."
 
"I'm so proud of the number of young men we were able to get in this class," added Keopple. "We've never signed this many in one class which makes it a GREAT time to be a Mulerider!"
 
Keopple's 2017 signing class features 20 defensive players and 21 offensive players. Of the 20 defensive players signed, half (10) will help bolster the secondary while the other 10 signees will shore up the front seven with six coming in as linebackers and four as defensive linemen.
 
On the offensive end, the most signees in terms of position will come in the trenches as they signed six offensive linemen. Five wideouts, four tight ends, a pair of running backs and a fullback/H-back will add depth to the skill positions of the Great American Conference's top offense each of the last three years. Additionally, Keopple inked three quarterbacks to help provide depth at that spot.
 
Geographically, the 2017 signing class features more Arkansans with 17, followed by Texas with 14 signees from the Lone Star State. Louisiana brought six signees and Mississippi and Tennessee each yielded a pair of commits.
