MAGNOLIA, Ark. – With just over two weeks until the 2013 NFL Draft, former Southern Arkansas standout cornerback
Don Unamba had been generating a lot of pre-draft buzz as some draft experts have Unamba as a rising prospect in the upcoming draft that is scheduled to start on April 25.
According to Russ Lande of National Football Post, Unamba is one of three players whose draft stock is on the rise. In this list published on April 9, Unamba is mentioned among Division I standouts Star Lotulelei (Utah) and Akeem Spence (Illinois).
In the
analysis provided of Unamba, Lande notes that the Mulerider All-American has not received much publicity as the draft nears, but despite that, NFL teams have taken notice of his skill set and how dominant of a cornerback he was in 2012 for SAU. As a result of the NFL's acknowledgement of Unamba's potential abilities at the next level, Lande projects Unamba to possibly be a middle-round draft pick.
Should Lande's projection hold true, Unamba will become the second Mulerider, and the first since Dennis Woodberry, to be drafted into the NFL. Woodberry was the first Mulerider to be drafted when he was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in 1984.
Last year, Unamba started all 11 games, finishing fifth on the team with 47 tackles (37 solo), including 1.5 for six yards in loss. The Hurst, Texas native had three interceptions for 66 yards in return and set the new school record with 17 pass breakups, while also blocking two kicks and recovering a fumble.
