MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas punter Zach Massingill (5-11, 200, Hawkins, Texas) has been named the Gulf South Conference special teams player of the week for the second time in the past three weeks, receiving the honor for his performance in the Muleriders’
24-22 win at Incarnate Word Saturday.
Massingill helped keep the Cardinals backed up deep in their own territory, limiting the UIW offense to an average starting point of its own 18-yard line off his five punts in the game.
Massingill totaled 223 yards on his five boots for a 44.6 average, including dropping two inside Incarnate Word’s 20-yard line. The junior sailed his first punt for a career-high 66 yards, and also added a 53-yarder that was actually knocked down at the one before a teammate pushed it into the end zone. The Cardinals returned only two of the punts for a combined total of 12 yards.
