[June 2, 2008] June 2, 2008 MAGNOLIA, Ark. – A total of 10 athletes have signed to play volleyball for Southern Arkansas according to Coach Brooke White. The Lady Muleriders’ 2008 class includes three transfers and seven incoming freshmen that will join seven returnees from the 2007 squad. Transferring in are Kristen Maureau, Danielle Sneed, and Michaela Scroggins, and signing from the high school ranks are Katy Kidwell, Erica Malone, Courtney Ray, Laura Reed, Courtney Smith, Meagan Utsey, and Jordan White. Maureau and Sneed come to SAU from Brookhaven (Texas) College where they helped lead the Bears to their fourth consecutive Metro Athletic Conference (MAC) championship and a third-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III national championship last fall. Both were named First Team All-NJCAA Region V and First Team All-MAC, while Sneed received First Team NJCAA DIII All-America honors and was the Region V most valuable player. They were also both selected to the DIII national championship All-Tournament Team. Maureau is a 5-9, junior middle blocker/right side hitter from Houston, Texas, who prepped at Cypress Ridge High School, and Sneed is a 5-6, junior outside hitter/defensive specialist out of Duncanville, Texas. A 5-6, sophomore setter, Scroggins comes to Southern Arkansas from Manatee (Fla.) Community College. Originally from The Colony, Texas, Scroggins played in 19 matches in her only season for the Lancers, averaging 5.3 assists and 2.0 digs per game, and had 25 services aces. Kidwell is a 5-10 middle blocker/outside hitter out of Whitehouse, Texas; Malone is a 5-7 libero/defensive specialist from Spring (Klein HS), Texas; Ray is a 5-10 outside hitter out of Texarkana (Pleasant Grove HS), Texas; Reed is a 6-0 right side hitter/setter from Carthage, Texas; Smith is a 5-10 right side hitter out of Arlington (Mansfield Summit HS), Texas; Utsey is a 5-8 defensive specialist from Camden (Fairview HS); and White is a 5-8 outside hitter out of Longview, Texas. |
