MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas tossed a 9-0 shutout at Christian Brothers in a Gulf South Conference tennis match Friday at the SAU tennis complex. It was the Lady Muleriders’ final home match of the season.

SAU almost pulled off a straight sweep in doubles action, getting 8-0 wins at Nos. two and three from the teams of Rachel Vinsant/Caitlin Korensek and Aneeka Bhalla/Megan Phinny, respectively, while claiming an 8-1 victory at No. 1 from the team of Meaghan Ocanas and Ana Gonzalez-Dorado.

Southern Arkansas got four points from wins in singles play, and got the other two victories via forfeits. Vinsant was leading 5-2 in the first set at No. 1 singles when Morgan Mills forfeited the match. Likewise, at No. 6, Brooke Grigsby had taken the first set 6-1, and was up 5-0 in the second when Nicole Bates forfeited.

The Lady Muleriders claimed straight set, 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. two, three, and four singles. Gonzalez-Dorado won at two, Ocanas threw the shutout at three, and Korensek got the win at four. Bhalla completed the triumph at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-0 win.

SAU honored Vinsant (Greenville, Texas), Bhalla (Nepean, Ontario), Gonzalez-Dorado (Rosario, Argentina), and Grigsby (Marmaduke), their four seniors, during the match.

Southern Arkansas moves to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in GSC play with the win. The Lady Muleriders were in Durant, Okla., Saturday for dual matches against Central Oklahoma and Southeastern Oklahoma State.
