MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Christian Brothers led throughout in handing Southern Arkansas a 64-57 setback in Gulf South Conference action Thursday at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center.

Holding a 32-24 edge at the break, the Lady Buccaneers more than doubled that over the first 10 minutes of the second frame to lead 51-34 on Sheena DeBose’s lay-up at 10:36. They took their largest margin of 21 points at 60-39 with 7:27 remaining and matched that at 62-41 at 6:14. All of a sudden the Lady Muleriders came to life, rattling off 12 unanswered points to put it in single digits, 62-53, with 50 seconds remaining, and made it 14 straight on Goldie White’s lay-up for a seven-point deficit with 28 ticks left. Unfortunately, they ran out of time as CBU held on for the win.

Shelton and Anderson provided a double whammy for CBU, each finishing with 16 points, and Anderson grabbing a game-high eight rebounds. Most of their damage came inside as Christian Brothers outscored Southern Arkansas 42-24 down low. A 39-29 rebound advantage aided that.

The Lady Buccaneers shot 51 percent (26-51) for the game, while the Lady Muleriders’ offensive struggles continued as they knocked down just 19 of 53 (35.8). CBU was 4 of 9 (44.4) from beyond the arc and 8 of 13 (61.5) at the free throw line, to SAU’s 1 of 8 (12.5) and 18 of 28 (64.3).
