MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas University football coach Steve Quinn has been relieved of his head coaching duties effective Tuesday, according to Director of Athletics Jay Adcox.
Quinn just completed his eighth season as a head coach, all at Southern Arkansas, with a 23-16 win Saturday at Arkansas-Monticello. A former member of the Mulerider staff, Quinn took over the reins of the program in 2001 after spending 2000 as an assistant coach at Northwestern State (La.). His SAU teams were 39-47, with his 2003 squad finishing 9-3 and advancing to the NCAA Division II playoffs. Prior to being at Northwestern, Quinn was with Southern Arkansas from 1997-1999 as assistant head coach and offensive line coach.
Quinn played his college ball at Ouachita Baptist and served afterwards on the staff there in 1986. He was a graduate assistant at Baylor for two seasons before accepting an assistant position at Pascagoula (Miss.) High School (1989-1992). Quinn spent 1993 as offensive line coach at Northwest Missouri State, and then served the next three years as offensive coordinator at Eastern New Mexico, before coming to SAU in 1997.
“We certainly appreciate the hard work, dedication, and many years of quality service that Coach Quinn has demonstrated over the past eight years to the University and the football program,” stated Adcox.
A search process to fill the position will begin immediately.
