MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas left fielder John Long picked up his third All-America honor when he was named a second team selection on the 2008 National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association All-America Team released Thursday.
Long (5-9, 175, Sr., Smackover, Ark.) is the only player from the Gulf South Conference to represent at least the second team on all three post-season All-America squads released so far, and one of two first team selections from the league (Daktronics). He led the GSC this season in slugging percentage (.800) and total bases (164), and ranked in the top five of seven offensive categories (batting average, hits, RBI, doubles, home runs and sac flies). Long was ranked 11th and 12th nationally in slugging percentage and total bases, respectively.
The senior led the Muleriders this year in hitting .415 with 18 home runs, two triples, 21 doubles, and 74 RBI.
