MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas outfielder Tyler Maag was selected on the 2008 South Central Region All-Tournament Team for his performance in the Muleriders’ four games at the regional.

Tyler Maag.JPGA 5-9, 180-pound junior from North Canton, Ohio, Maag hit .462 in going 6 for 13, and scored four runs. His three hits against sixth-ranked Abilene Christian sparked a rally from a 7-2 deficit to a 9-8 win that propelled SAU into the semi-finals of the tourney. Maag’s bases clearing triple in the eighth inning pulled the team to within one run and he had the game-winning RBI in the ninth when he was hit by a pitch with the bags again loaded. He also added a double in the game and finished with five RBI.

Maag had two hits in Southern Arkansas’ 5-2 loss to eventual region champion No. 26 Ouachita Baptist, added a single, drew a walk, and scored two runs in the 15-3 win that eliminated Texas A&M-Kingsville, and was again hit by a pitch and scored a run in the 5-3 loss to No. 1 Delta State in the semi-final game.

Maag, who was also named to the Gulf South Conference All-Tournament Team two weeks ago, was one of only two players on the 11-man region all-tournament team that wasn’t a member of the two final contenders of Ouachita Baptist and Delta State. OBU outfielder Justin Pennell was named the tournament’s most outstanding player.
