MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas’ Hayden Simpson has been named the Gulf South Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Henderson State this past weekend.
Simpson, in his second start of the season, pitched the Muleriders to a 14-2, 10-run rule seven 
inning victory over the Reddies in his lone appearance on the week. The true freshman and Magnolia native carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before a single off his glove from the leadoff hitter ended that bid. Simpson faced just one batter over his minimum while throwing only 71 pitches in six innings of work. After giving up a one-out walk in the third, he retired eight consecutive batters before the single in the sixth.
Simpson is the sixth SAU player to receive seven of the GSC’s weekly honors so far this season and the third pitcher to be so honored.
