[October 2, 2007] MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas gave Gulf South Conference West Division co-leader Henderson State all it wanted before falling in five games in volleyball action Tuesday at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center. The Lady Reddies pulled off the 3-2 win (30-18, 14-30, 23-30, 30-19, 15-8) to improve to 14-3 on the season and unbeaten in GSC play at 4-0. The Lady Muleriders slip to 6-14 and 2-3. After falling in the first game, SAU looked like a totally different team in the second and third frames to take advantage in the match. The fourth game was a momentum buster for Southern Arkansas as they jumped out to a 7-3 margin, but couldn’t maintain it as HSU went on an 8-3 run for an 11-10 lead and never trailed again. The Lady Muleriders never led in the deciding fifth game. Emily Trudgeon was the only Lady Reddie in double-figure kills, finishing with 16. Rachel Norton tossed up 33 assists and Bethany Wright had three service aces. Wright also got on the floor for a team-high 19 digs, while Trudgeon and Tiffany Gunn chipped in 15 each, Norton added 14, and Rose Euppah ended with 12. Edith Musebe had nine blocks at the net. SAU got a match-high 19 kills from Shelly Jones, and Cristina Correa finished with 10. Andrea Spradlin and Kayli Kerr again shared setting duties, finishing with 22 and 17 assists, respectively. Jones and Mallory McKee shared match-high honors with 25 digs apiece, while Correa added 24. Maggie Ross had six blocks and Sarah Bell added five. After four consecutive home matches, with three of those wins, Southern Arkansas hits the road Thursday to Arkadelphia for a 7 p.m. match with Ouachita Baptist. The Lady Muleriders return home Friday for a 6 p.m. non-conference match with Texas Woman’s. #SAU# |
