MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Nelly Tualla and Rachel Vinsant, members of the Southern Arkansas tennis program, have been selected to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District VI Women’s At-Large Team.
Tualla, a 5-1 senior out of Nacogdoches, Texas, graduated Summa Cum Laude in May with a cumulative 3.95 GPA in accounting. Earlier this month, she was honored with the 2007 SAU female Scholar-Athlete Award. Tualla is a past Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete, and was named to last year’s Gulf South Conference Spring All-Academic Team. She is a three-time member of the GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll, a six-time member of the SAU President’s List (4.00 GPA), and a two-time member of the SAU Dean’s List (minimum 3.50 GPA).
Tualla was 10-17 at number two singles and 13-12 at two doubles this past season. In her freshman season in 2004, she was the GSC West Division Freshman of the Year, a Second Team All-GSC pick, and received the SAU Outstanding Tennis Athlete Award.
A 5-8 junior from Greenville, Texas, Vinsant sports a 3.96 GPA in biological science. She too, is a past Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete and a member of the 2006 GSC Spring All-Academic Team. Vinsant has twice been honored on the GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll, is a five-time member of the SAU President’s List, and is a member of the SAU Dean’s List.
Playing at number one singles and doubles this year, Vinsant was 13-11 and 14-12, respectively, on her way to First Team All-GSC honors. She was a Second Team All-GSC selection in 2006 after being a First Team pick in 2005.
Both Tualla and Vinsant will now advance for consideration on the Academic All-America Team.
