MAGNOLIA, Ark. – A total of 17 players highlight the 2007 All-Gulf South Conference West Division Team, which was released today, with Southern Arkansas placing two on the team. Rachel Vinsant was a First Team pick, while Megan Phinny was named to the Second Team.
Vinsant returns to the first team after being named there in 2005. She was a second team selection last year. A 5-8 junior from Greenville, Texas, Vinsant had a 13-11 record playing at number one singles and was 14-12 at number one doubles this season. In 2006 she was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete, selected to the GSC All-Academic Team, and was on the GSC Academic Honor Roll. Those teams have not been released yet this year. Vinsant is also a four-time member of the SAU President’s List (4.00 GPA) and a member of the Dean’s List (3.50 GPA or better).
Phinny, a 5-4 freshman from Gladewater, Texas, posted a singles record of 16-7 at number six, and was 11-14 playing at number three doubles. She is only the third Lady Mulerider player to be named to the all-conference team as a freshman since 1996.
Vinsant and Phinny helped lead SAU to a season best 12 wins since the institution affiliated with the NCAA in 1995-96.
