[April 12, 2007] MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Tarleton State (Texas) University handed Southern Arkansas a 9-0 shutout in their last home match of the season Thursday at the SAU tennis complex. It was a rough way to end the home season, as the TexAnns, following their doubles victories, swept the singles in straight sets. With the loss, SAU drops to 11-12 on the year. In number one doubles, Shanna Wallis and Melanie Zilles defeated Rachel Vinsant and Tami Chadick, 8-4; Chrissie Cooper and Jade Charlot dropped Nelly Tualla and Caitlin Korensek, 8-3, at two; and Megan Phinny and Candice Little were shut out, 8-0, by Stacen Benavides and Diane Hawkins at three. Vinsant hung tough in her first set at one singles before falling, 6-4, and then lost the second, 6-1, giving the win to Wallis. Cooper and Zilles tossed 6-0, 6-0 shutouts at Tualla and Chadick at two and three, respectively. Benavides defeated Korensek, 6-2, 6-3 at four; Charlot handed Phinny a 6-1, 6-1 setback at five; and Little suffered a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Evgeniya Prokofeva at six. Southern Arkansas travels Monday to Little Rock for dual matches. The Lady Muleriders will take on Christian Brothers in a Gulf South Conference match at 9:30 a.m., before squaring off against Division I Arkansas-Little Rock at approximately 1:30 p.m. #SAU# |
