[March 16, 2007] MAGNOLIA, Ark. – After having their five-match win streak snapped Thursday by Ouachita Baptist, Southern Arkansas rebounded Friday with a 7-2 decision over Arkansas Tech at the SAU tennis complex. The Lady Muleriders got off to a strong start in doubles play, sweeping all three matches. Rachel Vinsant and Tami Chadick pulled off an 8-5 win over Tahnee Crous and Kristen Burgess at number one, Nelly Tualla and Caitlin Korensek claimed an 8-2 decision against Whitney Simmons and Karissa Lentz at two, and Aneeka Bhalla and Megan Phinny defeated Renee Malcuit and Paja Paul, 8-1, at three. Southern Arkansas won four of the six singles, dropping only the number two and three matches. Vinsant took a 6-4, 7-6 (4) decision from Crous at one, Chadick had a 6-2, 6-2 win at four against Burgess, Korensek claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Simmons at five, and Phinny won out, 9-7, against Malcuit at six. For the Golden Suns, Paul defeated Tualla at two (6-3, 6-4), and Lentz picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bhalla at three. The Lady Muleriders continue play on Saturday, hosting Henderson State in a non-conference match at 9 a.m., and square off against Southeastern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. #SAU# |
