[September 22, 2007] CONWAY, Ark. – The Southern Arkansas men’s and women’s cross country teams continued their early season dominance, winning both the men’s and women’s divisions Saturday at the ninth annual Hendrix Orange Crush meet. The Muleriders placed all nine of their runners in the top 11, including their five scorers in the top six spots. SAU won with 19 points, outscoring the host Warriors (47) by 28. Henderson State (75) was third, and University of the Ozarks (103) placed fourth. Southern Arkansas’ Josh Mitchell took home individual honors with a time of 28:04.32 in winning the 8K course. Nathan Blim (28:24.24), Kevin Perez (28:24.68), Dusty Hardin (28:30.61), and Colton Connelly (28:50.26) rounded out the Muleriders’ scoring, finishing third through sixth, respectively. Steve Martinez, Michael Wooten, Ryan Laws, and Ryan Davis placed eighth through 11th, respectively for SAU. Hendrix’s Drew Kellum and Matthew Malecha broke up the Southern Arkansas field in finishing second and seventh, respectively. The Lady Muleriders had all seven contestants place in the top 19, including their five scorers in the top 10. Southern Arkansas scored 33 points in picking up the win over the 5K course, out-pacing Arkansas Tech (55) by 22 points. Ouachita Baptist (69) was third, Hendrix (80) placed fourth, Henderson State (109) was fifth, Central Baptist (193) held the sixth spot, and Ozarks (203) was seventh. SAU’s Kendall Mears posted a time of 19:35.12 in winning the women’s division, her second individual title of the year. Bailey Dulaney (20:32.02) and Heather Rochelle (20:32.36) were sixth and seventh, respectively; while Michaela Krcova (20:40.57) and Samantha Sparks (20:50.55) rounded out the Lady Mulerider scoring at ninth and 10th, respectively. Southern Arkansas’ Jessica Gadlin and Sara Banman were 14th and 19th, respectively in the 53-person field. The Orange Crush wins were SAU’s third consecutive in both the men’s and women’s divisions, with both having won all three of their meets this year. The teams will look to continue that streak next Saturday, traveling to Memphis, Tenn., to compete in the Rhodes College Invitational. #SAU# |
