[September 8, 2007] ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – For the second consecutive week, Southern Arkansas’ men’s and women’s cross country teams have swept the field in winning both divisions at the Bob Gravett Invitational Saturday at Ouachita Baptist. SAU won both the men’s and women’s events at their season-opener last week in the Southern Arkansas Invitational and came away with basically the same results this weekend. All nine Mulerider (15) runners finished in the top 11 in the men’s 8K run, including the top five spots, to claim a 44-point win over Henderson State (59). University of the Ozarks (68) finished third. Times were not immediately available for the men. Joshua Mitchell, Dusty Hardin, Colton Connelly, Kevin Perez, and Nathan Blim finished first through fifth, respectively for SAU. Michael Wooten placed seventh, and Ryan Davis, Ryan Laws, and Steve Martinez were ninth through 11th, respectively in the 28-man field. Running unattached, Beau Palmer and Brandon Quam of Lyon College squeezed in at sixth and eighth among the Southern Arkansas runners. The Lady Muleriders (20) used seven runners in the top 10 to outscore second place Ouachita Baptist (41) by 21 points. Henderson State (79) was third, Arkansas-Monticello (131) fourth, Lyon College (132) placed fifth, and Ozarks (160) was sixth. The host Lady Tigers did come away with the individual winner as Hannah Howard (19:47.60) edged SAU’s Kendall Mears (19:57.71) in the women’s 5K. Southern Arkansas placed runners at third through seventh, getting scoring from Heather Rochelle (20:47.87), Michaela Krcova (21:05.55), Bailey Dulaney (21:19.66), and Jessica Gadlin (21:33.40). Samantha Sparks placed seventh. Other Lady Mulerider contestants were Jasmine Rainwater finishing 10th and Sara Banman placed 20th in the 43-person field. SAU’s cross country teams are off this weekend before traveling to Conway for the Orange Crush IX at Hendrix College on September 22. #SAU# |
