[November 24, 2007] Contact: Houston Taylor CLEVELAND, Miss. – Southern Arkansas guard Goldie White rang up a double-double Saturday, scoring a career-high 32 points in the process, to lead the Lady Muleriders past LeMoyne-Owen (Tenn.) College, 73-58, and complete a two-game sweep for SAU at the Delta State Margaret Wade Memorial Classic. Southern Arkansas defeated Albany State (Ga.), 64-56, on Friday. After posting a team-high 15 points in Friday’s win, White was all over the Lady Magicians Saturday, also recording a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with her 32 points. It was her first double of the season and third of her career. White finished 11 of 22 from the floor, including five of 10 three-pointers, and hit five of nine from the free throw line. She also dished out three assists, playing all but the final 30 seconds of the game. The Lady Muleriders overcame a 24-17 first half deficit in picking up the win. Trailing 34-33 at the break, SAU used a 16-5 run to start the second half and took a 49-39 advantage on Calisha Kirk’s jumper at 12:33. LOC got to within five points on three separate occasions, but Southern Arkansas responded each time, eventually pushing it to double-figures for good at 66-56 on Blair Jordan’s trey with 2:13 remaining. Shanaye Davis and Shardae Thompson added 11 points each for the Lady Muleriders. Karlnesiha Brown scored 15 points and had five rebounds to lead LeMoyne-Owen (0-3), while Kenya Moore chipped in 13 points. SAU held a 31-25 halftime advantage in Friday’s win over Albany State (0-1). In action that went back and forth, the game saw five ties and 12 lead changes before Southern Arkansas took the lead for good (49-48) on two White free throws with 5:15 left. Jordan’s downtown bomb pushed the Lady Muleriders to an 11-point edge with 1:17 remaining, and gave her a career-high 13 points. Davis recorded 10 points for SAU, and Kirk and Kayla Jones each pulled down seven rebounds. Nikia Trice posted a double-double for the Golden Rams, scoring a game-high 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, while Aldrany Peak pulled down a game-high 15 boards. Fifth-ranked host Delta State also went 2-0 in the classic, handing ASU a 78-40 setback Friday, and taking down LOC, 63-45, Saturday. Southern Arkansas’ White and Davis were both named to the All-Tournament Team, as was Trice (Albany State), Moore (LeMoyne-Owen), and Delta State’s Brittani Calhoun and Lamaesha McAdory, who earned the classic MVP honor. The Lady Muleriders (3-2) continue their nine-game road trip Monday at 12th-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce in a 6 p.m. tip-off. The Lions nipped SAU, 55-50, November 17 in Magnolia. |
