MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Gulf South Conference has released the 2006-07 Winter All-Academic Teams, and Academic Honor Roll that includes eight Southern Arkansas University student-athletes, one of them named to the conference All-Academic Team. A total of 22 student-athletes across the league were named to the All-Academic Team, which consists of only basketball.
The GSC All-Academic Teams are nominated by the conference sports information directors (SIDs), and selected by the SIDs and Faculty Athletic Representatives in a joint vote. Nominees must have an overall grade point (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be a freshman or first-year participant.
Members of the GSC Academic Honor Roll must post a minimum of a cumulative 3.00 GPA and have competed during their respective season. All student-athletes, including freshmen and first-year participants, are eligible for the Honor Roll.
The Muleriders’ Ndubuisi Egwuatu was selected to this year’s All-Academic Team. Egwuatu, a 6-8, 250-pound center from Abuja, Nigeria, is an accounting major and sports a 3.59 GPA. The sophomore was a member of last year’s GSC Academic Honor Roll, and is a four-time member of the SAU Dean’s List (3.50 GPA or better). Egwuatu played in 17 games for Southern Arkansas this past season.
Joining Egwuatu on the men’s GSC Academic Honor Roll are Cory Green, a junior with a 3.01 in health, kinesiology and recreation (HKR), and Mori Turpin, a sophomore with a 4.00 in general studies.
Lady Muleriders on the Academic Honor Roll include Brooke Grigsby, a senior with a 3.08 in accounting; Keysha Hill, a freshman HKR major with a 3.60 GPA; Kayla Jones, a freshman with an undecided major with a 3.43; Goldie White, a freshman athletic training major with a 3.29 GPA; and Stefanie White, a junior with a 3.64 in accounting.
