[March 18, 2007] MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Over 20 teams from NCAA Division I, II, and III competed Saturday in the Rhodes College Open on the Rhodes campus. Southern Arkansas’ men’s and women’s teams made a strong showing in the all-day event. The Mulerider 400-meter relay team posted a time of 42.34 in placing second, just behind Ole Miss’ “A” team. The men were represented well in the 400 meter dash also, getting a third place finish from Jermaine Logan with a time of 49.70. William Hinton finished sixth in the event in 50.96. Brandon Suell was 11th (52.55), and Kelby Drennon placed 16th (54.53). In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Joshua Mitchell finished fifth with a time of 10:44.32. Derek Martin and Hinton represented SAU in the 200 meter dash, with Martin placing 16th (23.47) and Hinton coming in 18th (23.51). In the 1500 meter run, Nathan Hall was 16th (4:13.27) and Kevin Moore placed 34th (4:51.97). Representing Southern Arkansas in the 800 meter run were Michael Wooten, who finished 21st (2:05.16), and Obrion Mallory, who placed 33rd (2:16.77). Rounding out competition in the open, the Muleriders placed three in the 5000 meter run. Elliot Isom came in 23rd (16:51.84), Kevin Perez was 25th (16:53.43), and Morgan Collier placed 27th (17:44.88). For the Lady Muleriders, in the 5000 meter run, Kendall Mears had a seventh-place showing, finishing in 18:35.88, and Lindsay Musielak was 10th in 18:58.00. Ashley Weeks placed 20th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:39.94, and in the 1500 meter run, Pam Elmore came in 27th with a time of 5:25.58. The event was un-scored. SAU’s track teams compete next on April 14 in the Northwestern State (La.) University Invitational in Natchitoches. |
