[March 8, 2007] NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Southern Arkansas men’s and women’s track teams opened their 2007 season Wednesday, participating in the Northwestern State University Relays at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex. A total of six men’s and women’s teams competed in the event, with the meet being un-scored. Institutions represented at the relays included host Northwestern State, Stephen F. Austin, Louisiana-Monroe, McNeese State, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Southern Arkansas. SAU had only one entry in a field event as Chantal Scott finished sixth in the women’s long jump with a distance of 15-11.5. The Lady Muleriders had runners in the 1500 and 3000 meter runs. In the 1500, Kendall Mears placed fifth with a time of 5:05.63, Lindsay Musielak was seventh (5:16.56), and Pam Elmore came in 12th (5:32.47). Mears was also fifth (11:10.58) in the 3000, and Musielak placed sixth (11:10.65). For the Muleriders, Nathan Hall was a strong second in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:04.31. Elliot Isom (9:55.65) and Morgan Collier (10:09.27) finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Joshua Mitchell had a fourth-place (11:03.57) showing in the 3000 steeplechase. In the 400 meter relay, the men’s team of Derek Martin, Tyler Logan, Ryan Hinton, and Brandon Suell came in fourth with a time of 42.17. Southern Arkansas also placed fourth in the 1600 sprint medley, as Hinton, Suell, Stephen Thompson, and Michael Wooten combined for a time of 3:39.74. SAU is off until March 17, when they travel to Memphis, Tenn., to compete in the Rhodes College Open Meet. #SAU# |
