MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southern Arkansas second baseman Skyler Stromsmoe has been selected First Team on the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Baseball Team. A total of 34 baseball student-athletes from across the country comprise the three-teams that make up the All-America Team which was announced today (Tuesday).
A 5-10, 170-pound senior from Etzikom, Alberta, Stromsmoe has a 4.00 cumulative GPA in health, kinesiology, and recreation, and was one of four with a perfect 4.00 named to the three teams, including just two on the First Team. Stromsmoe earlier made the ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District VI Team to advance for consideration on the All-America Team.
Stromsmoe was also a First Team Academic All-District VI pick last year before being named to the Third Team on the 2006 Academic All-America Team. He was honored last year as a member of the Gulf South Conference Spring All-Academic Team, and was the 2006 SAU male Scholar-Athlete. Stromsmoe is a two-time member of the GSC Academic Honor Roll and a six-time member of the Southern Arkansas President’s List, making all A’s in his six completed semesters.
Stromsmoe has made his mark on the playing field as well, being selected First Team All-GSC the past two seasons. He was awarded the 2007 SAU Auburn Smith Award, the highest honor an SAU athlete can achieve. Stromsmoe was twice named the GSC West Division Player of the Week this year, the second and third such honor in his career, and set the school season record for stolen bases, finishing with 52. He currently is second in the NCAA Division II in that category.
