[October 5, 2006] MAGNOLIA, Ark. – It’s over…Southern Arkansas University finally broke their volleyball jinx against Henderson State University on Thursday picking up a 3-2 decision (30-27, 30-28, 22-30, 16-30, and 17-15) at the W.T. Watson Athletic Center. It was the Lady Muleriders first win over the Lady Reddies since 1993, a stretch of 26 matches. With the win, SAU improves to 8-10 overall and 2-5 in the Gulf South Conference, while HSU falls to 15-6 and 4-3. Southern Arkansas got 15 kills from Kristina Daily and 14 from Shelly Jones. Brandi Beeson dropped in 11 and Jessica Sutten settled for 10. Andrea Spradlin served up 30 assists, and Kayli Kerr had 17. Mallory McKee finished with a team-high 31 digs, Jones had 18, and Spradlin and Ellen Malone contributed 10 apiece. Rose Euppah finished with a match-high 22 kills and Ivana Mali had 18 to lead the Lady Reddies. Edith Musebe added 14 and Emily Trudgeon had 10. Rachel Norton dished out a match-high 65 assists. Defensively, Bethany Wright had a match-high 35 digs, Mali added 15, and Raveon Harrowa finished with 13. Henderson State finished the match with 81 kills to 58 by Southern Arkansas to outhit the Lady Muleriders .159 to .155. SAU won the battle at the net, knocking down 17 blocks to 13 by the Lady Reddies. Southern Arkansas will host the Harding Lady Bisons Tuesday night in a 7 p.m. match in the W.T. Watson Athletic Center. #SAU# |
