[September 30, 2006] MAGNOLIA, Ark. - Southern Arkansas stepped out of conference action Saturday morning to defeat East Texas Baptist University, 30-24, 24-30, 26-30, 30-23, and 15-13 to improve their overall record to 7-9, while the Lady Tigers fell to 8-10. The Lady Muleriders had a balanced attack with four players in double-figures in kills. Kristina Daily had a team-high 15 kills. Brandi Beeson finished with 14, Jessica Sutten added 13, and Jessie Mailhes had 10. Andrea Spradlin and Kayli Kerr tossed up 32 and 26 assists, respectively. Mallory McKee had a match-high 31 digs, her fourth 30-plus match this season. Shelly Jones added 21, Spradlin had 13, and Ellen Malone finished with 12. Daily had a match-high six blocks, including three solo, and Mailhes added five. Jasmine Manson had a match-high 23 kills for ETBU. Jane Hayes finished with 16, and Leslie Ward chipped in 13. Traci Twardowski had 49 assists and added three service aces. Jill Boyd had a team-high 30 digs, Hays finished with 22, Christy Shipley added 19, Twardowski had 15, and Tiffany Allen 11. Ward finished with three blocks to lead East Texas Baptist. SAU outhit the Lady Tigers, .202 to .116, with 72 kills to ETBU’s 66. Southern Arkansas had a huge advantage at the net, knocking down 20 blocks to East Texas Baptist’s eight. SAU resumes conference play Tuesday when they travel to Monticello to face Arkansas-Monticello in a 7 p.m. match. #SAU# |
