All five will be incoming freshmen for the 2008 season. Alex Doyle is a 5-7 infielder and pitcher from Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas. A Second Team All-District selection, Doyle sports a 3.50 GPA and is listed in the top 10 percent of her senior class. She is student council president and is a member of the National Honor Society. “Alex should be able to help us in several aspects of the game because she can pitch, play infield, and hit,” stated Madewell. Megan Holliday is a 5-7 catcher out of Senatobia High School in Senatobia, Miss. She is a two-time World Series winner and All-Tournament Team player, and has served as a captain of her high school team for the past two years. Holliday is an All-District performer who was awarded best defensive player of her prep team. She has a 3.75 GPA, is a member of Who’s Who among American High School Students, the National Honor Roll, Senior Beta Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. “Megan is a very good catcher with a great attitude and work ethic, and I expect her to be a leader on and off the field,” said the coach. Sarah Holub is a 5-8 pitcher from Sealy High School in Sealy, Texas. She has been a First Team All-District and All-Tri-County pitcher selection for the past two seasons. Holub also was an All-District pick the past four years for the volleyball team. She has a 4.00 GPA, is ranked second in her class, and serves as class vice-president. Holub is a member of the speech and debate team and the National Honor Society. Madewell expects Holub to have an immediate impact in the Gulf South Conference. Samantha “Sami” Maurer is a 5-3 outfielder out of Summit High School in Arlington, Texas. She was a Second Team All-District and All-Conference selection last year, and was named the most valuable player and defensive player for her high school team. Also named the academic athlete of the year, Maurer has a 3.85 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society and math team. “I’m very excited about what Sami will bring to this team next year,” stated Madewell, “She is very versatile with a strong bat, and can play infield or outfield with pretty good speed.” The final signee is Alex Tordiglione, a 5-3 middle infielder from Aledo High School in Aledo, Texas. She hit .340 this past season, with a .650 on-base percentage, and stole 40 bases in leading her team to the district championship and a regional finalist berth. “Alex is a well-rounded athlete who should bring some speed to the team,” said Madewell. “She is small, but can hit from both sides of the plate.” #SAU# |
